Berlin, Schropp, 1807. Map in 18 sections, 53 x 38 cm, mounted on beige linen and folded. Housed in a speckled paper slipcase (minor defects to the slipcase). A very rare map showing the city within its walls (similar to the Parisian *octroi* or toll barriers), including its former ramparts. The map clearly depicts the layout of buildings crowning the plots in this capital—at a time when the population was around 150,000 (compared to twenty times that today). Major thoroughfares (Unter den Linden), main squares (Gendarmenmarkt), and islands are clearly visible, as are the fields located within the city walls. The back of the map bears the handsome label of the publisher, Simon Schropp.
