[xii], ‘382’ (recte 394); printed in red and black throughout, title-page with woodcut portrait of Saints Stephen and Valentine incorporating the Alantsee device with letterpress name of Leonhard Alantsee within the frame, full-page woodcut of the Crucifixion, four other full-page woodcuts with historiated woodcut borders on facing pages, smaller woodcut illustrations throughout; upper margin of title-page excised and repaired, marginal wormholes to first 3 ff., marginal paper-flaws to a few leaves, small stains to x8, the odd mark, else a very good copy; bound in contemporary Austrian blind-stamped sheep over wooden boards, front board lettered ‘BREVIER E’ in blind, spine blind-tooled in compartments with an eighteenth-century gilt paper lettering-piece, traces of nails from bosses at centre and corners, remains of two clasps, index tabs, sewn on 3 split tawed thongs, spine lined with manuscript waste on vellum; somewhat worn and rubbed, spine defective at head and foot, endpapers renewed; late sixteenth- or early seventeenth-century notes on m2–4, inscription of the Augustinian Canons Regular of Klosterneuburg to title dated 26 May 1656.

Antiphonal, with neumes, containing antiphons, responses and versicles for Trinity Sunday, the Octave of Pentecost, Sundays after Pentecost and Summer Histories. Germany, first half of twelfth century. Two bifolia (leaves not consecutive) written in double columns of an angular German romanesque hand, ruled lightly in plummet, adiastematic neumes, blank spaces between words filled with a single red line, marginal differentia, one three-line initial and several two-line initials in red, some with guide-letters, smaller initials in red or in black touched with red, rubrics; recovered from use in bindings and with consequent staining and wear, trimmed at fore-edges just affecting a few rubrics, initials and differentia, a few natural vellum flaws, but generally in very good condition and entirely legible; loose in mid-nineteenth-century marbled boards, large paper label on upper cover describing contents, smaller paper label with class-mark ‘AR.2. 7-18’. 336 x 234 mm (text area 255 x 200 mm).

[89] (of 94), paginated in a contemporary hand to 185, final 11 leaves blank except for pagination; a total of five leaves (almost certainly blank except for pagination) removed before and after present final blank leaf, dampstain at head of first few leaves, small rectangular area of title (probably on ownership inscription) excised and replaced with blank paper (with loss of a few words on verso); contemporary calf, spine gilt, upper cover lettered direct ‘Les principes du clavecin’ in gilt within gilt border, marbled paper pastedowns, edges sprinkled red; rubbed and worn, extreme head and foot of spine chipped, a few wormholes.

Folio (290 x 210 mm), ff. 258 (all blanks present); gothic letter in double columns, spaces for initials with guide letters; some light browning, occasional staining, short wormtrack in outer blank margin of c. 23 leaves, single wormholes mainly towards beginning and end affecting the odd single letter, neat repairs to tears in D6 and D7 affecting two letters on each verso, small burn on p2 obscuring a two-letter word on the recto, but generally in good condition; scattered marginalia in various different hands throughout; contemporary (probably Nuremberg) blind-stamped calf over wooden boards, top compartment of upper cover stamped ‘Lambardica’ in gilt in large gothic letters, fragment from an incunable used as the rear pastedown (see below), front pastedown and free endpaper apparently renewed at an early date; some rubbing and wear, loss to head of spine, tears and loosening to tailcap, old worming to boards, lacking clasps.

III f. 263v; occasional light marginal staining, minor wormhole to lower margin of quires I cγ-eε, small rust-hole to I AΑ1 (affecting a few characters without loss of sense), neat old repairs to vol. I title verso (with small loss to lower inner corner of border), nonetheless a very good set; bound in late eighteenth-century French marbled calf, spines gilt in compartments with gilt red paper lettering-pieces, edges stained red, green ribbon place-markers; skilful repairs to joints and extremities, very slightly rubbed; ink stamp to first and third title-pages of the Jesuits of Lyons.
