Illustrated with 60 chromolithographic plates (complete). 16 maps attached to the back of bindings (complete). One map listed in volume 4 placed in vol. 5, note from the publisher inserted. Numerous b/w woodcuts in text. Uncut in original blue cloth blocked in blind spines with lettering in gilt. All volumes with light rubbing to exteriors. Facing pages slightly browned from contact with plates. Title pages mildly browned. Volume 1 with top split along top gutters 20mm along front and 60mm along back board. Volume 4 with weak front hinge but holding exept for lower band. Small closed tear to upper edge of front board (3mm). Volume 5 has spine detached from binding i small strip along front board.

Bound with the original blank wrappers with the original typographical wrapper titles of vols. 1-2 tipped on, in a early 20th century half morocco binding with marbled sidepaper. Title field in morocco to the upper board. Slight edgewear and soiling to the boards. A bit of foxing ot the margins of the leaves.

Contemporary full binding of marbled calf with richly gilt spine. Old ink stamp (Odense Kathedral-Skoles Bibliothek) on titlepage. The titlepage slightly frayed along lower edge. Slight foxing thorughout. Some maps with discreetly closed marginal tears (only visible on verso). The map with the northern part of Dithmarschen loosened. Table-of-contents in old hand on back flyleaf.

Several titlepages facing pages 17, 30, 48, 64, 78, 90, 102, 114, 126, 138, 146, divides the text into sections of subjects. Bound in a nice, modern black half morocco binding. Spine gilt and with five raised bands. Older inked name to front free endpaper. Pages occaisionally showing small ink or burnmarks. Only light foxing. Some pages with folds in text. First fold-out plate (Constantinople) with a repair (tear still showing on motif) and a few inkstains. Pages 1-4 with coarser repairs. In the case of pages 3/4 a vertical closed tear is still affecting text as one has tried to avoid covering lettering with paper. Smaller repair to page 5/6.

Titleleaf printed in red with a floral woodcut. The main text is surrounded by commentaries in two columns. Bound in a modern full calf binding. The leaves a1-c8 are restored to the lower margins; most well outside the text, but some with a little text loss. Owner's names and notes to the verso of the titleleaf [one dated 1502], partly missing, due to restoration of the paper. A few scattered marginal notes in the 1502 hand. Some browning/dampstaining to the leaves.
